Facebook Tips for Christian Music Artists

Christian music artists work hard to spread the gospel. Most have a Facebook profile but need to go a step further to advance their music career. Here are few tips M/I suggests to our current clients which might help:

Start a fan page. Matter of fact, have your sister start one too. You have fans and a following and they are on Facebook too. This is a great opportunity to let them know what’s new in your world in real time. Artist should update their website weekly. Fan pages can be updated daily. And sometimes your fans expect artists to update regularly.

Share. Sometimes uses give too much information. Frankly know one needs to know when someone visits the restroom or what they are watching on TV. But there is plenty that can be shared that people do want to know about. Share:
• Video clips of your gigs
• How to get free concert tickets
• Press releases
• New pics

Ads add a lot. Would you like your album to be available for purchase on Facebook? Ads are the way to go. Using ads you can sell everything from tickets to t-shirts. But it is not enough to just throw up something and say, “buy this.” The ad must be compelling and persuasive. Sometimes it is better to promote your website or fan page over your actual product.

What other tips do you have for Christian music artists using Facebook?

Martin Luther King Jr. Quotes

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968) was a principal leader of the non-violent Civil Rights Movement in the U.S. He not only began the Civil Rights Movement with the Montgomery Bus Boycott, he himself became an icon for the entire movement. Since King was, in part, famous for his oratory abilities, one can both be inspired and learn much by reading through these quotes by Martin Luther King, Jr.

* Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
-- "Letter from Birmingham Jail," 16 April 1963

* We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.
-- Speech in St. Louis, Missouri, March 22, 1964

* The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. The true neighbor will risk his position, his prestige and even his life for the welfare of others.
-- Strength in Love (1963)

* We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people.
-- "Letter from Birmingham Jail," April 16, 1963

* I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.
-- "I Have a Dream" speech, August 28, 1963

* Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
-- Strength in Love (1963)

* Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And he's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over, and I've seen the promised land . . . So I'm happy tonight. I'm not worried about anything. I'm not fearing any man.
-- "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech, April 3, 1968 (the day before his assassination)

* If a man hasn't discovered something he will die for, he isn't fit to live.
-- Speech in Detroit, Michigan on June 23, 1963

* The means by which we live have outdistanced the ends for which we live. Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men.
-- Strength in Love (1963), Ch. 7

* Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.
-- "Letter from Birmingham Jail," April 16, 1963

* I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
-- "I Have a Dream" speech, August 28, 1963

* I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and willingly accepts the penalty by staying in jail in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the very highest respect for the law.
-- "Letter from Birmingham Jail," April 16, 1963

* It may be true that the law cannot make a man love me, but it can keep him from lynching me, and I think that's pretty important.
-- Quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Nov. 13, 1962

* A nation or civilization that continues to produce soft-minded men purchases its own spiritual death on an installment plan.
-- Strength to Love (1963)

* We who engage in nonviolent direct action are not the creators of tension. We merely bring to the surface the hidden tension that is already alive.
-- "Letter from Birmingham Jail," April 16, 1963
* I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right temporarily defeated is stronger than evil triumphant.
-- Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech, December 10, 1964

* Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will.
-- "Letter from Birmingham Jail," April 16, 1963

* We were here before the mighty words of the Declaration of Independence were etched across the pages of history. Our forebears labored without wages. They made cotton 'king'. And yet out of a bottomless vitality, they continued to thrive and develop. If the cruelties of slavery could not stop us, the opposition we now face will surely fail. . . . Because the goal of America is freedom, abused and scorned tho' we may be, our destiny is tied up with America's destiny.
-- "Letter from Birmingham Jail," April 16, 1963

* Discrimination is a hellhound that gnaws at Negroes in every waking moment of their lives to remind them that the lie of their inferiority is accepted as truth in the society dominating them.
-- "Where do we go from here?" speech, August 16, 1967

* When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every tenement and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old spiritual, "Free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty, we are free at last."
-- "I Have a Dream" speech, August 28, 1963

Find a calling and then deliver.

“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.’” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

Tye Tribbett Goes solo in 2010 with Backup Singers

Camden, NJ -- Tye Tribbett and Greater Anointing (G.A.) will be parting ways BUT on a good note. It is being reported that as of 2010 Tye will be launching a solo career and that their New Year’s Eve concert in Washington was the last event that he would be doing with Greater Anointing. Tye apparently broke the news of his decision to his choir members at a rehearsal.

However according to Niecy Tribbett, Tye’s mother and manager said, “After being together for 13 years Tye felt it was time for change.” The change consisted of releasing group members from a heavy schedule that kept them on the road and allowing group members to pursue their own visions, from working with their own churches, pushing out their own solo projects to even pursuing their own ministries.

In the meantime, Tye will be pursuing his own solo career. However he won’t be all alone on stage. He will still have a band and back up singers, except they won’t be G.A. singers.

In 2009 Tye went through a number of personal situations but he has since bounced back and has moved forward performing and ministering both in the US and the Caribbean including Jamaica.

Always performing with a live band and is known for being theatrical in their performance with Tye doing the splits, Greater Anointing will be missed on the scene but with God directing the path of these individuals they can’t go wrong.

In the meantime, Tye will be working on a new CD slated for an early 2010 release.

Let’s continue to keep Tye, his family and Greater Anointing in prayer.

Facebook Tips for the Ministry of Industry: Pastors, Churches and Ministries

Pastors are great for praying, preaching and providing for the community, but do they know how to best use Facebook to their churches advantage. Here are few tips M/I suggests to our current clients which might help:

Start a fan page. Facebook offers the use of fan pages specifically for the employ of organizations and businesses. A fan page can offer a less invasive platform for churches to communicate with the Facebook community. Any pastor, church or ministry should create a fan page. Although it can not replace a website, it can act as a landing page or additional information hub. Don’t neglect to make a personal URL for your page like www.facebook.com/mychurch.

Make it matter. There are so many profiles on Facebook, what sets yours apart? Add a little something extra that makes people aware of your ministry in its uniqueness.
• Upload images of your services or special events
• Share sermon notes
• Write articles about members doing special things in the church
• Post videos of singing engagements or announcement
Making special content just for Facebook visitors will add distinction from other social media sites.

Apps are our friends. Facebook have 100s of applications. Many are gears towards business use. Apps can be used to conduct polls, sell merchandise, or, even, announce an event. Scroll through all of the apps and see which ones work best for you. If it does work, delete it.

Why Pastors, Ministers, and Faith-Based Organization Leaders Join Online Communities?

Let’s think about marketing for a minute. Marketing is done to reach a target audience. Theoretically, the more money and manpower added, the better the results. Usually, when the marketing efforts stop so do the website visits, calls, and financial support.

If pastors stop marketing, will new people come to the church?
If ministries stop marketing, will the community still support them?
If music artists stop marketing, will merchandise still move?
If business owners stop marketing, will profits decrease?
The answer: Most likely!

Social media marketing is the same way. One must continuously be engaging. However, unlike traditional marketing campaigns, social media marketing will continue to return value with the same level of investment as the online community becomes self-sustaining, the campaign grows virally, and the marketer builds their reputation with community members.

Joining an online community can enhance pastors, ministers, and faith-based organization leaders marketing efforts. When joining, remember each online community has a unique niche and personality. Success is determined by ones ability to effectively understand, navigate and communicate in that environment.

Most online communities allow users to say and do, pretty much, whatever they choose. Therefore, an entity must work hard to stand out and remain positive in what can be a very “dirty” society of webbies.

What online communities do you suggest for pastors, ministers, and faith-based organization leaders?
