Pursue opportunities more than a job

Jobs are not guaranteed, but opportunities are. The best opportunity can be found by listening to people's problems. Listen to their problems and offer thoughtful solutions. Your next big business opportunity could be in your response to someone's problem. (Read Romans 12:11)

Everyone gets discouraged. However, the best way to protect your heart against discouragement is by meditating on God's word, listening to teachings of mentors and finishing what you started. Completing a God-given assignment brings immediate satisfaction, confidence and peace. (Read 1 Sam 30:6)

M/I Promotions: Helping Doctors Connect with Patients Through Social Media

If you are a doctor, you will enjoy this interesting article. Call me M/I Promotions for more information on how they can help you. 816-921-3633. Marketing@MIPromotions.com

"Report examines why doctors take the plunge into social media," according to Adam Gaub

Diagnosing why doctors use social media requires more than a one-size-fits-all prescription, Ellerin Health Media founder Bunny Ellerin found while writing her recently released white paper “The Social Physician.”

In the paper, Ellerin interviewed 10 physicians with varying specialties from across the country — conversations that may go a long way toward debunking the prevailing theory that the majority of doctors remain staggeringly behind when it comes to social media.

“People who market to doctors have a lot of preconceived notions that just aren’t correct,” Ellerin said in an interview Wednesday. Having worked with doctors earlier in her career from a marketer’s perspective, Ellerin said the emergence of social media has opened doors — not only between marketers and physicians, but also between physicians and their patients.

Many, like oncologist Dr. Stephen Lemon of Omaha, Neb., jumped into the social-media fray to fight the incorrect information that proliferates on the Internet.

“10 years ago, there was a lot of information on the web, but today, there is so much that it’s a wonder any layperson or even an expert can sift through it and know what’s accurate and what’s not,” Ellerin said, citing the key point hit upon by Lemon in his desire to engage online.

Lemon, who is preparing to launch CancerLifeCenter.com as a resource guide for cancer patients and their families, said he wants to “make the right information available to help the patient.”

Many doctors realize that patients are using social media as a way of garnering medical information — often from one another.

“Patients are sharing information among themselves; we need to be there too,” said Virginia-based bone and soft tissue surgeon Dr. Felasfa Wodajo.

Dr. Val Jones created BetterHealth.com in 2008 to bring together a large portion of the patients and physicians engaged in the social-media realm. New Hampshire-based internist Dr. Kevin Pho has become something of a social-media celebrity in the medical world, posting his takes on developments in the industry on his website, KevinMD.com, since 2004.

It is in sharing and disseminating information that doctors have found the most success; tracking down new patients has yet to produce fruit for many, Ellerin found.

Speaking with Dr. Alan Dappen, a seasoned family-medicine practitioner, Ellerin discovered that efforts to garner new patients have yet to take root, for the most part. The problem, she believes, may be as much with the patients as the doctors not reaching out.

“Many patients still look at doctors in a different light… though I do think over the next several years it will have more of an impact as people become more comfortable with doctors putting themselves out there,” Ellerin said. “Now if you Google a doctor and their blog or Twitter page comes up, you can use that to vet them.”

And while some doctors cite privacy concerns, a lack of compensation or other factors when relaying a reluctance in joining the social-media crowd, Ellerin said time is the biggest roadblock to more doctors getting involved.

For those that do participate, however, many find that their time spent online pays off in spades.

“It takes time to build a network and cultivate relationships on Twitter,” said pediatric gastroenterologist Dr. Bryan Vartabedian. ” But they are starting to bear fruit. I see it when I ask for help. The strength and power of those relationships are shocking.”

A Website for Your Church, Ministry, Nonprofit or Business is Mandatory

With the growth in popularity of Facebook, LinkedIn, and Myspace, many have begun to question if having a professional website is still necessary. Undoubtedly, a website for your church, ministry, nonprofit or business is mandatory. While it is tempting to save money by letting a volunteer try to build one, you may need to rely on professional help when it comes to design and implementation.

You should have a basic knowledge when planning and designing a good website. This will help when making decisions about your organizations site. Here are a few tips to consider:

Simple is Superior. Today websites are scaling back. The day of fancy flash and intricate coding has come to an end. Make sure the site is well-maintained above all.

Hire Higher. Your website is your virtual business card. Don’t trust the design to an armature. Work with a trustworthy marketing company to do your website design. Ask to see sites they have previously built.

Budget Better. Set a budget. Decide how much money you can truly afford. But don’t be cheap. You want the best your money can buy. Apply for grants that are willing support marketing and branding initiatives.

Opt to Manage. Most sites are built with a Content Management System. This system allows for someone with even basis computer skills to maintain and update the site. Even if you hire someone to do your management, have the CMS available.

Will the Seeking Find You. So now you have spent a ton of money and you own the most amazingly designed website ever. But the question still remains, “Are you findable?” Being able to be found on search engines like Google requires an important step called Search Engine Optimization. Learn about it. Invest in it.

Measure Success. Analytics and statistics can be intimidating words but are vital to measuring the success of your site. They give you information about traffic coming to your site. Who is visiting? And how did they find you?

Know Yourself. Before hiring a marketer to build your site, know what you want. Ask yourself a couple of questions. How soon do I need this project finished? How much money should I spend? What do I expect? Who is responsible for research and gathering information? Doing this will save a lot of time and money.

Design for Your Audience. When making decisions about your website design and functionality, you must think like those who will be using the site.

Poll Your Pals. Your members, fans, clients, colleagues and friends can get involved here. Ask them questions about what they think is important in the improvement of your site. Each of them might have different, but helpful answers.

Reach Out and Touch. Reach the right people with your site, and then encourage a specific behavior. Your sites should evoke a reaction. Do you want them to cry, cuss, or call?

Help Wanted. No, Needed. Most sites come with a content management system. This enables you to personally make minor corrections and updates to your site. But it is paramount to know when a change is outside of your ability.

Use these tips to evaluate the effectiveness of your website design. It is not too late for a redesign or to start all over. Make quality priority!

How and Why to Write a Thank-You Note

Being a Christian means more than wearing a cross and owning a Bible. The way you treat others is very important – especially someone that does something for you. As a minister, artist or business owner, showing appreciation is a classic way to rep Christ.

I personally am a text and email fanatic. It is the fastest way to get a hold of me. For many, it has become the most common mode of communication. But there are times when using the fashion pin and paper can be more personal and appropriate – when saying “thank you.”

Perhaps you have asked yourself: Do I have to send an old-fashioned thank-you note when someone gives me a gift? My answer is a resounding “yes.” It is not a bad idea. It’s easy to do and can go a long way.

The note doesn’t have to be long and drawn out on the fanciest paper you can find. Stay uncomplicated and personal. Mention the way they impacted you. For example, “thank you for visiting my office” or “thank you for buying my project.” If they gave you something, express how you will fit it into your life. “The book you gave me has been quite helpful.”

The important thing is to appear genuine and heartfelt. Sending a thank you note will make the giver feel good and appreciated. They are more likely to give unto you again and again. Don’t believe me? Watch how many times God will give unto you when you take time to say “thank you” to Him.”

SUMMARY: Effective church communication is more than preaching a sermon that inspires. It requires careful planning and consideration of your audience.

Here are eight common church-communications blunders to avoid.

1. “I don’t need a marketing plan.”
"If you don't know where you're going, any road will get you there." --The Cheshire Cat, Alice in Wonderland. Check out this tutorial for a step-by-step guide to developing or updating your church’s marketing plan.

2. “Ready. Fire! Aim.”
Getting your marketing steps out of order can be extremely costly. Just remember the three “M’s:” Message, Movement and Method. More importantly, remember the order to execute them.

Step 1: Message – What is the purpose and point of each of your communication efforts? Create a strong and compelling call to action in each.
Step 2: Movement – What do you want to happen because of your message? Be specific in terms of attendance, actions and feelings.
Step 3: Method – How will you connect the message with the movement?

If method comes first, you may wind up with something that looks amazing but does nothing for the cause. If the movement comes first, you get a bunch of people milling around with no sense of purpose or direction.

3. “The church down the road is doing it and it’s working great.”
However, every congregation is unique, so a “one-size-fits-all” approach is not the best. Many people go to other churches because they are looking for something different. So don’t copy other communications and ministries outright. Customize. It’s ok to repurpose another churches’ ideas or ministries, but add an original component that makes you stand out. Start by finding out the differing interests of your congregation and the other people you are trying to reach. Based on your findings, figure out the best communication methods to use.

4. “Everyone gets my message.”
Often the message gets lost because it’s either unclear or buried. Think of your call to action like the title to a classic song. Many times the title is conversational, prominently placed and repeated. Some people get away with breaking these rules. For instance, Bob Dylan can write a song nobody understands, yet people still think it is cool. Why? Because “cool” overshadows esoteric or “artsy” writing. It’s hard to pull off though, so as a rule, assume nobody “gets” your message. Next, rethink your content and test it on people who aren’t familiar with it.

5. “I went to seminary and want everyone to know it.”
People shouldn’t need a seminary degree to understand you – whether you are preaching, teaching or writing an article for the website. Unless your content comes with a translator, do not speak “churchy” language.

6. “People are dying to hear my opinion.”
Communication is a privilege, not a right. Many pastors get so used to their congregation listening to them every Sunday that they forget that the unchurched aren’t so eager to listen. People care about their own interests. Don’t assume people know, like or care about your message. Think about who is listening, and tailor your message accordingly. Make the message as clear and compelling as possible.

7. “My message is always interesting.”
I see a lot of church communication that is both good and original. However, the good parts aren’t original, and the original parts aren’t good. Content that isn’t compelling or interesting isn’t likely to be read or heard.

8. “It’s too expensive to do it right.”
If your marketing material looks cheap, it will most likely repel people and do the opposite of what you intended. As much as we like to provide inexpensive marketing methods, we also like to promote wise decisions. Know when you can skimp and when you need to make the investment in especially important communications efforts.

An M/I Moment with Apostle Dr. Monique McMiller of New U Ministries

New U Ministries specializes in healing and teaching but we are a birthed out five fold ministry through the Holy Spirit and ordained by Jesus Christ.

I was called out, set apart back in 2003 in the middle of all I had going on in my life. Jesus snatch me away and told me through all my pain He (Jesus) wanted me to come and work for him to save the lost and lives of people. He told me that if I didn't die for him I would die without him. That just wasn't option to be without Jesus. I had tried other things and Jesus Christ is the only God I know that save my soul from the deep places of Hell.

New U Ministries is a voice for the end time movement of Jesus Christ. It is empowered by the Holy Spirit to reach what some may say are the unreachable. We believe that all are called for a purpose and a reason. We believe through the right teaching of the Holy Spirit you can do all things! We believe in prosper living on earth!

We will continue to be a voice in the earth to heal the sick, comfort the broken hearted, and take the gospel into all nations. We will continue to provide teaching of the Holy Spirit and encourage people to be set free in the Kingdom of God.

If someone wrote biography about me, it would be titled, “The Mirror Image.” On a side note, I love to shop for cosmetics!

Should Christian Music Artists Have a Rider?

Let’s start by revealing what a rider really is. In short, a rider is a lofty list of demands a music artist expects. Exaggerated example: “If you want me to sing at your church, I need a stack of gold trimmed white towels, green tea from the hidden tribes of the Himalayas, and skinless green apples freshly picked from an exclusive orchard in Maine.”

Secular music artists are infamous for ridiculous and outrageous riders. Is it okay for Christian music artists to expect royal and privileged treatment? Some people believe no one should get special services. As an up and coming artist, getting gigs is hard enough. If you present yourself as difficult to work with and needy, you are less likely to get asked back. Remember your rider can serve as a reputation setter.

Here are a couple of tips to remember about riders:
• Riders need to be reasonable.
• Moderate food and drink preferences are not so bad.
• To avoid any surprises, include your rider in the initial performance agreement.

The accommodations for a Christian artist can be below meek at times. Sometimes no matter what you include in your rider, everyone has a different way of treating their guests. As a Christian, always be grateful and appreciative. There is nothing wrong with wanting the best – you are a kid of the King! But never lose sight of your real purpose. It’s not about you, its all about Christ and repping Him to the fullest.

Grab God and Go: Christian Music Artist Promotional Tour

Putting together a promotional tour as a Christian music artist can be a lot of hard work and time. For M/I Promotions, the techniques and processes are second nature. Therefore, we thought to let you in on a few of our secrets.

So your booking agent has worked hard to fill your whole summer with ministry opportunities. Yes, it is great to get out of the city but there is a laundry list of tasks to take care of to maximize your marketing push.

Be sure to have all of your CD and promotional materials are professionally packaged. They can be sent to college radio and commercial radio stations in the cities and towns on your tour schedule in advanced. Have a professionally written press release will help industry leaders notice you.

Follow-up calls should be made to Music Directors and DJs to make sure the CD is getting airplay. Otherwise, expect your music to stay in a stack on their desks. Also, send your CD and promotional materials to local music press and follow-up calls should be made to editors to cover your performance.

Contact local events websites to distribute show dates, location and time through their email lists at least three weeks in advance.

Promote your show on your Internet chatrooms, clubs, social media networks, and message boards to get the word out about your upcoming performance. Contacts the media to schedule interviews with press or radio before your performance.

Above all, pray and consecrate yourself. Get a position to really hear what God’s purpose and plan is for the tour. Ask Him to open the doors of the right venues. Ask Him to soften the hearts of program directors towards your radio play. Ask Him to inspire the press to share your story. Stay integral when communicating virtually. Grab God and represent Him well. Make this promotional campaign more about Him and less about you.

A GODLY Leadership Moment

…DO NOT WORRY….Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear… Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?... O ye of little faith?... Your Heavenly Father knows what you need. Seek first His kingdom & righteousness and all these things will be given to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow” MATTHEW 6:25-34

NOT WORRYING is a tough concept for all of us, no matter who you are! Leaders have to (and must) deal with this personally as well as for those they lead! In these challenging times with so much hopelessness, bad economy, people/friends losing jobs, organization struggling, oil spilling, disasters here and there, people being laid off – who or what is next? Will it be you, a loved one or some of those you lead? It is nearly a daily occurrence to hear from someone close in our lives who has been impacted; I heard from a good friend and executive just this morning that is now out of a job. It’s everywhere, and we’re not supposed to worry?!? Indeed, this is one of the tougher biblical principles we are supposed to follow… YIKES, no that’s DOUBLE YIKES.

As leaders we are really needed by those we lead. As much as we may want to focus & dwell on our own worries, stresses, etc………..your folks need you & your leadership! A few points to share as I have been pondering this much lately:

* Let them know you also have concerns personally as well as your concern for them. Be ‘human’ and don’t be afraid of letting them see it. When we let others IN, we build trust & strong relationships. Some believe this shows weakness as a leader – that’s just wrong. The relationships in our lives makes these times much more palatable – especially when one of those relationships is YOU, their boss! When we all get thru these times (and we will unless we don’tJ)…and things turn around - this trusting relationship you built WITH THEM will pay huge dividends.

* Working relationships between co-workers can become very strained as individuals withdrawal, lack concentration, and/or lash out at others. Don’t avoid it or try to pretend it’s not there. It is real and everyone feels it. Why not get it out for all to know and relaize we are all dealing with it and we (the leader and the rest of the team) are there for each other. It needs to be be dealt with, exposed and curtailed before it gets out of hand. Although we can never be sure of our security (of our jobs) and those that we lead, we need to reassure our people as much as possible; & with the truth as we know it!

* You may be thinking that you are not there to be a counselor, therapist or psychologist! I for one, totally disagree. Leaders are absolutely conscious and realize that their job is indeed all of these and more. It may not be in your job description, but trust me, the ones you lead know what they need from you; and again it’s all of those and more… God’s best, BOOKER

An M/I Moment with Apostle Denise P. Isaac

My name is Denise P. Isaac. I am an Apostle/Overseer who specializes in Apostolic/Healing/ Deliverance/Family (Agape)

I was licensed to minister in 1982 but when the Lord called and appointed me to the Pastorate I resisted at first, for I was or rather am a RN by trade and was also working as a Surety Agent (Bonds Person) as well and was comfortable until I became Sis. Job-ette. You know the rest from there (total surrender) came.

We affect the nations by supporting financially, emotionally, spiritually (holistically) to the indigent (poor/needy) first "NO" matter where they are or who.

The future holds a promising one of fulfillment and a greater level of reverence and obedience that will bring God (ABBA) the glory that He deserves, requires, needs and wants from us.

The biography should be a "Woman of Integrity, Agape and Obedience for and unto Him"

I am "transparent" and everything that I AM I am to "ALL" in every aspect. I do not know of anything that I have "NOT" shared or displayed to at least someone, somewhere, someday throughout my life (My life is a very excited and interesting one too, without all the drama).

Planning a Promotional Campaign for a Pastor, Church or Ministry, Part 3

Ministries have a message they deem necessary to be heard. While word of mouth is always a valued resource for publicity, planning a promotions strategy is not a bad idea.

The proper promotional message must be developed. When repping Jesus, the message is clear. But every ministry has a different style and method for spreading the Gospel. At first, the promotional message may seem like a no brainer but there are many components to consider. The content, appeal, structure, format, and source of the message are all important.

Now for the best part – the budget. We all know salvation is free but ministry takes money. Ideally a budget will be determined and followed. Is this a local campaign or national? Break down the cost per territory. Then consider the mix elements for each. Billboards in Detroit may cost more than in Kansas City. Decide which sections of the campaign require the most financial obligation. After evaluating affordability, percent of sales, and competitive parity, one might get a better idea on gauging the success potential of your campaign.

An integral part of any good plan is evaluation of effectiveness and re-execution. How did the actual performance measure up to planned objectives? When the visitors start to flood your church porch, ask them how they heard about you. This will give you a good over of which tools are working best.

To promote means to elevate. The Bible makes countless charges to elevate or magnify the Lord. Keep God at the forefront of your promotional campaign, and everything will be great.

An M/I Moment with Mark Adkison, the President & Founder of HearItFirst.com

HearItFirst.com is a site that connects fans with artists in the contemporary Christian music genre. Our site specializes in hearing music before it’s available in stores as well as behind the scenes video interviews that we film and produce ourselves. We cover multiple Christian genres ROCK, POP, URBAN (Rap/Hip Hop, Traditional Black Gospel), WORSHIP and Independent bands and artists from around the country.

I founded the site in 1998 as part of EMI Christian Music Group’s ForeFront Records division. The site name came from when we were working with the group dc Talk and wanted to premiere/sneak preview their new record Supernatural to fans to help build anticipation for the record before it hit the store shelves. So we “streamed” the album online, two songs per week, six weeks before the CD was available in stores.

We believe that Christian music is a tool that Christ uses to draw us closer to Him. We work with artists and bands that impact lives by presenting the gospel to Christians that encourage them in their daily walk as well as draw those that don’t know him into relationship with him.

We are working to continue to get the word out about our site. Although many areas have Christian music radio stations, many times it doesn’t meet the needs of every musical taste. We pray that we continue to reach people and that they’re able to come to the site to discover, reengage in the music they love and that the Spirit would lead them into closer relationship with Christ. We will continue to produce better content and work with artists to deliver a great experience that is second to none.

If someone wrote a biography about me, it would be titled “Football, Music, Computers and Jesus!”

On a side note, I would love to become a really good stand-up comedian.

M/I has a client that has a very, very cool product that we want to get into churches and schools. It’s called MyCSIcard. The website is www.mycsicard.com http://ping.fm/LSL7a

Here is some basic info…

The president of the company is a local school principal and a minister. It was developed by him with input from law enforcement, security consultants and technology experts. It’s sleek, durable credit-card sized flash drive that plugs in to any computer USB port. Here are just some of its benefits:

* Decrease Amber Alert time from 60 minutes to 10 minutes

* Provide Law enforcement all the necessary information in time of crisis when you don't have the ability to think straight and answer questions

* Store 31 data fields about your child including pictures, demographics, known friends, known dangers, medical conditions, distinguishing scars, etc…

* Be easily updated and transported

* You control the information so that no third parties will have access to your privacy

* Work with all types of computers and computer operating systems

* Provide close family members and people who care for your child the immediate information in case of an emergency

* Be provided to other organizations to complete registrations (Schools, Churches, Summer Camps, Emergency Room, etc…)

The cost is only $29.95 a YEAR. That’s crazy. Let me know if you know any churches, schools, parents, etc that might be interested.

Planning a Promotional Campaign for a Pastor, Church or Ministry, Part 1

Ministries have a message they deem necessary to be heard. While word of mouth is always a valued resource for publicity, planning a promotions strategy is not a bad idea.

Why should a pastor, church or ministry plan a promotional campaign?

There are three main reasons or perspective outcomes for initiating promotions:
• To reach your intended audience
• To effectively articulate your message to your target
• To stimulate a specific action by the message being communicated

For a pastor, the intended audience may be the unchurched or non-believer. The promotional campaign will help to convey the proper message in a way most acceptable by this demographic. Ultimately the intent is to draw these persons to visit their church or, even, give their lives to Christ.

You will be able to reach them better if you understand their needs and desires. One can’t assume you know another’s basic wishes, so you must open the lines of dialogue. Get out into the community and explore the deficits of the neighborhood. Talk to people. Run ideas by them. Take an active interest in their lives.

Recognize that every community is comprised of multiple small groups. These groups have leaders and decision makers. Develop a relationship with them and work together to bring about real change.

Next, make decisions about what communication channels will be used. For ministry, speaking with people face to face is best. The use of social media networks is a great way to talk to young adults and youth. A lot of ministries advertise in faith-based publications. But if you really want to reach the unchurched, check out local secular publications.
