The Media Should Know About Your Ministry, Part 3

How many people got saved at your church this Sunday? With whom did you share this great news? Did you tell your local TV station, newspaper or radio station? You should!

When something amazing happens in our ministries we think to tell our family, friends and Facebook, but what about the rest of the world. Pitch these stories to reporters and see how God works.

Jill Schultz of JMS Communications & Research suggests the following: “A unique and meaningful youth program or a church that has a budding or successful ministry to a very forgotten group may be of interest to the media. Large youth events with bands focused on reaching out to the young people of a community may be of appeal, especially if the event is backed by a real understanding and some backup statistics of the needs of youth in the community or world today. Traditional news media cannot understand why the church believes what it does, but it can be intrigued when the church poses answers to problems that exist in our world, in our communities. ”

Ultimately, you must analyze if your church is engaging in activities worthy of sharing. Here are a few things to consider:

• Why do you spread the word about your ministry?
• Are you trying to increase membership or are you passionate about sharing the goodness of God?
• What is your ministry’s niche? How are you different?
• Are you having a positive impact on your community?
• What members of society are most affected by the missions of your ministry?
• What types of people are you concerned with (youth, widows, sick, homeless, etc.)?
• Does your ministry meet the overall goals and needs of the city?

What do you consider good reasons for a ministry publicizing their church to the ministry?
