The Media Should Know About Your Ministry, Part 4

How many people got saved at your church this Sunday? With whom did you share this great news? Did you tell your local TV station, newspaper or radio station? You should!

When something amazing happens in our ministries we think to tell our family, friends and Facebook, but what about the rest of the world. Pitch these stories to reporters and see how God works.

Jill Schultz of JMS Communications & Research suggests, “If you want to publicize a church ministry and think it may be worthy of media attention, ask yourself the following questions:
-- [Is your ministry’s success due to] some deeper understanding of what people are looking for today that makes it unique or non-traditional?
-- Is this something lasting and sincere that can be sustained, or is it a flash in the pan effort to attract attention?
-- Are you doing something very traditional but having phenomenal growth/success because of what you understand about what people are looking for today?
-- Can you quote external sources to validate your understanding of why your ministry effort is successful?”

Here are a few ideas of testimonies you can pitch to the media. Hopefully this will spark some thoughts of ways to get the media interested in publicizing your ministry:

Are you expecting something great to happen in the near future? Get the word out. Start the buzz now. When improvements are anticipated get the whole city excited. Someone with the same passion might jump on board to help speed up the process.

The church building fund has finally met its goal and now its time to build. Once the building is built and the doors are open, the entire community should rally around. Anything you build, we want to know about it. Building project raise the value of the neighborhood.

More ideas to come…
