The Media Should Know About Your Ministry, Part 5

How many people got saved at your church this Sunday? With whom did you share this great news? Did you tell your local TV station, newspaper or radio station? You should!

When something amazing happens in our ministries we think to tell our family, friends and Facebook, but what about the rest of the world. Pitch these stories to reporters and see how God works.

Here are a few ideas of testimonies you can pitch to the media. Hopefully this will spark some thoughts of ways to get the media interested in publicizing your ministry:

Adding new members or expanding your staff is a great broadcast opportunity. If your church has a new minister of music, tell all of the radio stations. Share when your ministry is growing and striving. Even a minor increase can be major news.

Joining forces with another ministry for a mutual cause should be celebrated and supported by society. For instance, if a Baptist and a Catholic church collaborate on a clothing drive, it expands their reach and the TV stations should chime in. Speak about the purpose and passion behind the joint venture.

When something monumental happens in one of your members lives, rally around them. New babies, retirements, or even a new promotion on the job is reason enough to contact your local media.

Ministries are living organisms. As they expand, let others include in your announcement the reason for growth or how it happened. When there is a system that works for expansion, people want to learn about it.

Celebrate the scholars of your congregation. Excelling academically is a testament to the power of God in education. This should be blasted.

More ideas to come…
